In addition to carefully selected hardwoods and finishes, we use only food-safe adhesives, fillers, epoxies, and finishes throughout the construction process once fully cured.

Materials commonly used include:

  • Titebond III waterproof wood glue
  • Marine-grade epoxy for small knot filling when needed
  • Non-toxic water-based wood filler
  • Your selected finish option

Every countertop and butcher block is handcrafted using materials selected for durability, safety, and long-term performance.

Yes. Properly maintained wood cutting boards and butcher blocks are widely considered safe for food preparation and have been used in kitchens for generations.

Research has shown that wood surfaces can naturally limit bacterial survival by drawing moisture and bacteria below the surface, where they become trapped and die over time. In contrast, heavily scored plastic cutting boards may retain bacteria in knife grooves that are more difficult to fully sanitize.

End grain butcher blocks are especially popular for food preparation because they are durable, knife-friendly, and naturally resilient under repeated use.

As with any food preparation surface, regular cleaning and proper maintenance are important for long-term performance and sanitation.

Construction & Finishes

Yes. Every countertop and butcher block is handcrafted in our Denver, Colorado workshop by our in-house team using carefully selected hardwoods and food-safe materials.

Each grain style offers a distinct appearance, construction method, and intended use.

  • Edge Grain features long, narrow wood strips laminated together for a clean, linear appearance and excellent durability, making it a popular choice for countertops and kitchen islands.
  • Face Grain showcases the widest surface of the wood board, highlighting natural grain patterns and character variation for a more furniture-style appearance.
  • End Grain exposes the wood fibers vertically, creating a highly durable work surface traditionally favored for cutting surfaces and heavy food preparation.

Care requirements depend on your selected finish type. Proper maintenance helps preserve the appearance and longevity of your countertop.

Typical countertop overhangs range from approximately 3/4" to 1 1/2", depending on cabinet style, application, and overall design preferences.

Extended overhangs for seating areas are common, though additional support may be required depending on the countertop construction, overhang direction, span, and installation method.
